HEIDI'S WORLD

Hi Fashionistas,
Saturday night I attended Fashion Group International’s Rising Star Awards. As you know, FGI has made The Fashionistas one of their philanthropic partners and the beneficiaries of Saturday night’s gala. I am overwhelmed by their support and generosity and look forward to a long and rewarding partnership with this venerable organization.

Our favorite couture designer, Michael Faircloth, was the Master of Ceremonies. If he ever decides to leave the fashion world, he could have a brilliant career as a stand-up comedian. I had the honor to present the Art award to Count Filippo Tattoni-Marcozi, director and curator of Goss Gallery. (I just learned about the Count thing on Saturday night and Filippo made me promise not to tell, but it’s just too juicy to keep to myself, sorry Filippo). Other award recipients were Charlie Givens for ZaSpa, Tracy Achor Hayes for F!D Luxe, and Diana Tabeshi for Denim for Immortality, Robyn and Rachael Wise for Cymbidium, and Heath Calhoun for Cowboy Cool. Ebby Halliday received the Inspirational Award and played us one of her original hit songs on her ukulele.

FASHIONISTAS 2

Our too-cute-for-words new group continues to grow. Last week I headed over to Highland Park High School to spread the Fashionistas2 message to their Fashion Club. Club Presidents Ellie Gilchrist and Kristina Kaltenback are doing a terrific job planning their annual runway show. Ellie is our F2 liaison at HPHS and is busy recruiting new members.

Our other F2 liaisons are Naomi Bowen at Hockaday, Seth Kamp, Audrey Mabry and Bekah Otis at Brooker T. Washington, Milan Pantuso at Bishop Lynch, Rachel Shor at Greenhill, and Gretchen Devero at Ursuline. They will all be very busy planning our first F2 event, which will be at Barney’s in January.

Thom Faust got the award for retail achievement, but couldn’t be there to accept because he achieved a big promotion at Chanel and moved to New York.

The party was held at the Park Cities Hilton and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised at what an attractive venue it was for the event. The whole evening was very attractive which you would expect from Fashion Group. You know, I went to the FGI’s Night of Stars Awards in New York last week where there were four movie stars, 10 famous fashion designers, a smattering of super models and the usual assortment of high profile NY social types, and I actually thought our group was better looking!

Bailey Banks and Biddle added a nice touch of glamour to the festivities by donating a 1.5, $16,000 diamond. The deal was that you bought a split of champagne for $25 and that got your name into the drawing. I tried to rig it by buying everyone I knew a bottle, but, no luck. The diamond went to someone at table 14. It’s just as well, because my son, Dallas, made me promise to give the diamond to him if I won.

I can’t help but wonder what he was planning to do with it.

Well, by 11:00 we were all still in a very festive mood so Terri Provencal of Modern Luxury suggested that we head over to Suite. If you haven’t been there yet, it’s THE hot nightclub. There was a long line of people trying to get in, but it so happens that I’ve known owner Mathew Giese for years, so my date for the evening, Doss Alexander and I walked right in just like Bianca and Halston going to Studio 54. Everyone was there including Dr. Vinita Schroeder and the famous French dermatologist to all the international celebrities, Dr. Maurice Dray, who is in town this week to make subtle changes to our already near perfect countenances. By 1:00 a.m, the revelers were still going strong, but it was three hours past my bedtime and my hair do was coming apart, so it was time to retire.
                     Stay fabulous!

PAST EVENTS
DAVID RODRIGUEZ, AMANDA STERETT & BROOKE RYDMAN TRUNKSHOW

We had a great time at the David Rodriguez, Amanda Sterett & Brooke Rydman trunk shows on October 12th & 13th. Personal shopper, Nancy Klompus made all the arrangements at the cute new boutique hotel Indigo, which happens to be right next door to Fashion on Main. Lunch was served to a group of about 40 people on the 12th and the designers all gave a presentation of their work. I bought a nifty black scarf from Brooke that has gold sequins on it. All of her things are hand-woven and are really yummy. From David I chose a very chic evening ensemble, which I plan to wear to the opening of the Balenciaga exhibition in February. Amanda is going to drape my neck for that evening in her stunning black and gold necklaces. People came downtown and shopped like mad. The designers were all happy because sales were even better this time than our last trunk show in May and I was really happy because The Fashionistas get a percentage of sales. www.davidrodriguez.net, www.amandasterett.com, www.brookerydman.com

KEVIN CHARLES SALON OPENING
Kevin Charles, the official hair stylist to the Academy Awards, threw an opening party to benefit The Fashionistas on October 11. Over 200 people packed into Kevin’s 2222 McKinney Avenue salon, all decked out in their red carpet looks. Terri Provencal and Daniella Giglio from Modern Luxury, our media sponsor, did an incredible job of making the evening a huge success. A super cool DJ kept the place hopping and the campaign and cocktails flowed. You know I always insist on champagne, so Kevin came up to me and asked if everything was up to my standards! Quite so, Kevin I guess the crowd felt the same way because they drank up every drop of alcohol within a two-mile radius. You know, Kevin is donating a percentage of all sales from October thru December to The Fashionistas!!

Since Kevin is being so swell, I decided to have him cut my hair. I can say with all honesty that it is the best hair cut that I have ever had. When I went into the salon for my cut, the adorable Austin washed my hair and gave me a Kérastase conditioning treatment. The treatment comes with your cut and my hair still feels like a million bucks. In addition to being super talented, Kevin is also a convivial guy. No celebrity hair stylist pretences for him! After my cut, Austin finished me up with a super-fab blow dry. I was so pleased with everything that I made an appointment to have my hair colored the next day by Lacey. She got out all the brassy blonde tones and made my hair softer beige, which I love. Call for an appointment 214-720-9200.
