Heidi's World
Fall is always a very difficult time for me. As many of you know, we spend most of the summer in Malibu where it's always 72 and sunny. Dallas is a great place to live and I adore each and every one of you, but let's face it, it's tough to compete with 23 miles of beautiful coastline, rugged mountains, wooded canyons, sheltered coves and daily celebrity sightings. I even experienced my very first earthquake, which shook the entire house. While it was happening I looked up from my computer and thought, "man, those vacuum cleaners the cleaning company is using are strong!" In preparation for summer in sunny California, I always pack tons of high heels, my clip on hair extensions, false eyelashes, designer dresses and a trunk full of cosmetics with every intention of maintaining my glamorous Dallas look from July through August. I manage to keep it up for a day or two, but it doesn't take long to get into the laid-back Malibu groove and forget about looking fabulous. So, after a summer of no fake hair, natural eyelashes and flip-flops, it takes a little time for me to adjust to our event packed social season. My Achilles tendons have finally shortened again so I can walk in my 4-inch heels without the aid of two spotters.
Just because I was sitting on the beach, please don't think that our Fashionistas team wasn't hard at work. There were a number of exciting developments that I would like to share with you. Our creative director, Dave Lopez, spent the summer scouring the city in search of the most fashionable set of young influencers that he aptly named the Limelight Group. The Limelight Group consists of 9 energetic movers and shakers who are charged with bringing a younger "psychographic" to The Fashionistas and being the muscle behind some of our fabulous fundraisers. Limelighters worked all summer to bring you the Universe party at LFT, their inaugural event, which was a huge success.
On another front, board member Rosanne Hart took a trip to New York to meet with Dr. Valerie Steele, director of the Museum at F.I.T. Rosanne gave Dr. Steele a brief history of The Fashionistas and suggested that we partner with her and her support group, Couture Council. If you are unfamiliar with Dr. Steele and the museum, please, by all means, look them up at www.fitnyc.edu/museum. This is the big time people. I have been a huge fan of Valerie and the Museum at F.I.T. for some time and am in awe of their programs. Education is our primary mission and we will be working closely with the people at F.I.T to bring top-notch fashion education programs to Dallas. In exchange, we have agreed to include a membership to Couture Council ($1,000 value) for those who join The Fashionistas at the "Ultra Chic" ($5,000) level, giving the Ultra's entree into the exclusive New York fashion world.
We have many exciting things in store these next few months and our outlook remains positive. Our passion for fashion will not diminish - even in the midst of the most difficult and trying times. I appreciate your support more than words can possibly express.
Stay Fabulous,

Kirby Allison
Kirby Allison, founder of the premium luxury hanger company Kirby Allison’s Hanger Project: www.HangerProject.com, has recently joined The Fashionistas as Chairman of our Limelight Group. Recognizing a void in the marketplace for a well-made luxury branded hanger, Allison, a graduate from The University of Texas at Austin, created the world’s first premium luxury collection. His interest in luxury goods goes back to a college course he took on tailored apparel. It spurred his interest in the refined classics. Pursuing a career as an investment banker, Kirby noted how the hangers that were delivered with his suit purchases were inadequate and often destroyed the shape of shoulders of the jackets. Thus began his quest to create the ultimate hanger. In just 14 months, it has been recognized by leading critics, such as The Wall Street Journal, Esquire, and The Culture Snob, as the best hanger for the best clothes.
Kirby brings fresh excitement and energy to The Fashionistas’ Limelight Group. “I’m excited about being involved and help introduce The Fashionistas to the young, fashionable, and social Dallas crowd. There are so many of us that enjoy being on both the cutting edge of fashion and the Dallas scene, and The Fashionistas is a great organization to rally these leaders behind fashion as art,” Kirby states. The Fashionistas’ Limelight Group’s first large event co-hosted with LFT-The Universe Party-early September was a great debut onto the Dallas scene. “With over 1,200 people in attendance, The Fashionistas received some great exposure. Everyone there got it-they understood that The Fashionistas are as young, chic, and energetic as they are fashionable and trendy,” Kirby reported. With many new members from The Universe Party, The Fashionistas’ Limelight Group is looking forward to the next big event-stay tuned for more information.

Dallas Rocks
On Friday, November 7th Russell Simmons and Pat and Emmit Smith will host Dallas Rocks, an inaugural event benefiting the Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF). Russell founded DEF in 2007 along with individuals and businesses in the diamond and jewelry industry. Their mission is to raise money to support education initiatives that develop and empower economically disadvantaged people in African nations where diamonds are a natural resource. DEF endeavors to help young people achieve success through self-determination, focus and opportunity. The star-studded event will honor Earvin "Magic" Johnson and include a gala dinner chaired by Rozalyn and Robert St. Pe Colombo and after party chaired by Kirby Schlegel, Blake Andrews and Matt Nordgren. I attended the announcement party at Trece and had an opportunity to meet Russell and his people. I was impressed by their dedication to this cause and am honored that The Fashionistas have been invited to partner on this event. We are in the process of planning a unique opening event that will be held in January. All I can tell you now is - dust off your sneakers! The Hanger Project
Kirby Allison’s Hanger Project is a natural offshoot of his penchant for timeless luxury and old-world traditions. These hangers are more than just functional; they are maple wood works of art, befitting the closet of a person who has taste and style. With the average price of suits running well over $500.00, these hangers, priced under $30.00, are the ideal way to ensure a garment keeps their shape for years to come. They also revitalize closets into sanctuaries.
Don’t take anyone’s word for it. Experience it yourself. For about $500.00 you can transform your closet and give your garments the support they require. Peek into your own closet and view how the garments limp through life in a cavernous corridor of cotton, silk and wool. Transform that experience as you grab a beautifully designed, handcrafted and carved wooden hanger. Reaching for your suite or dress, you will realize that something is different. It’s as if a Beethoven concerto is coming from the closet. Quite simply, it’s the perfect way to start the day. www.hangerproject.com
