Co-producers Virginia Dollins & Maddie Crick
We sat down with Maddie and Virginia to talk fashion, inspiration, and what it takes to produce a fashion event:
Age and grade?
M: Both of us are 16 years old and in 11th grade
What is your dream job?
M: My dream job is to be a buyer for Neiman Marcus or a Fashion Editor for Vogue
V: I’m still figuring that out! I would love to work in international business (finance or marketing)
What led you to doing the runway show?
M: I modeled in a student run fashion show freshman year and was inspired to make one of my own.
V: Maddie introduced me to the idea and I was immediately interested in planning it with her!
Greatest lesson learned from last year’s runway show?
M: A great lesson I learned last year was that running a fashion show is so much more complicated than it seems. There are so many different components, but if you stay organized and have fun, it will be great!
V: I learned to not underestimate myself and the goals that I want to accomplish. When planning the show last year, we had a lot of doubts. However, we soon realized that more people were willing to help us than we expected.
What are you hoping will be different this year?
M: I hope that we are able to have more people come to the show this year and that it will be just like a professional fashion show.
V: I hope that there will be a better flow to the show and a more professional vibe.
What advice do you have for others interested in runway production?
M: The advice I would give to others interested in runway production is to start planning early and stay organized. Don’t be afraid to talk to stores and add personality into the show.
V: My advice would be to keep trying even when your goals seem far-fetched. If you are willing to work hard and stay on track of your goals, you will have a better chance of being successful.
What designer inspires you?
M: My favorite designer is Alice and Olivia. I love Alice and Olivia because Stacey Bendet always takes a simple dress and turns it into a masterpiece by her amazing attention to detail. I love the sparkles she adds to so many of her looks. Her dresses always steal the show.
V: My favorite designer is Marc Jacobs because I love how his designs are fun, fresh, and wearable.
Favorite places to shop?
M: My favorite places to shop are Neiman Marcus, Free People, and JCrew.
V: I love to shop at small boutiques, many of which are featured in the show. I also shop at Nordstrom.
Favorite blogs to read?
M: My favorite two fashion blogs to read at the moment are Dallas Tidbits and 5 inch and Up. I love the timeless style they both bring to their blogs.
V: My favorite blog is Peace Love Shea.
